Cookie Policy
Last updated: placeholder - update before launch.
1. Overview
SHHHHHHH uses a small number of strictly necessary cookies and browser storage so the product can function: keeping you signed in, and remembering your access to an anonymous chat. We do not use advertising cookies, social media tracking pixels, or third-party analytics cookies.
2. What we set
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
shh_session | HttpOnly cookie | Keeps your account signed in after login or signup. | About 30 days |
shh_p_{chatId} | HttpOnly cookie | Proves you are a participant in a specific anonymous chat so you can keep talking without re-joining. | About 90 days |
shh_token_{chatId} | sessionStorage | Browser-side backup of your chat access token when cookies are restricted (for example some mobile browsers). Cleared when the tab/session ends. | Tab / browser session |
3. Cookie attributes
- HttpOnly - session and participant cookies cannot be read by JavaScript in the page.
- SameSite=Lax - reduces cross-site sending of cookies.
- Secure - in production, cookies are only sent over HTTPS.
4. What we do not use
- Advertising or retargeting cookies
- Cross-site tracking cookies
- Third-party marketing pixels
- Non-essential analytics cookies
5. Consent
These cookies and storage items are required to provide the service you request (authentication and chat access). If you disable cookies in your browser, you may not be able to stay signed in or rejoin anonymous chats.
6. Managing cookies
You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings. Logging out clears the account session cookie. Leaving or losing a chat link without an account may mean you cannot recover that conversation.
